15 Reading strategies What is the main idea?
When we read, sometimes we want to know every word in the reading and we immediately look at our dictionaries. But sometimes, we don’t have enough time to do that, so it is more important to focus on the main idea or the meaning of the reading. Without telling your group the name of the movie, describe the main idea of the story of your favorite movie. * The main idea is usually one sentence long and it tells us everything about the story.

18 Past progressive- Note 1
We use the past progressive to focus on how long past action was. Paul was reading a book last night. We don’t know if he finished reading the book. All we know is that he was reading.. He was reading a book at 11:30PM. We often use the past progressive with a specific time in the past. What were you doing at 9PM last night? I was sleeping.

28 Simple past and past progressive
We use both of these tenses together to talk about an action that was stopped by another action. I was exercising when he called. While he was running, he fell. What is the past progressive verb? What is the past progressive verb? What is the simple past verb? What is the simple past verb? We use when to introduce the simple past action. We use while to introduce the past progressive.
