Teeth are one major part that makes your smile beautiful. If you do not want any issues and problems with your teeth and gums healthy then it is important.

Oral Hygiene  What is oral hygiene?  Practice of keeping the mouth and teeth clean to prevent dental problems!

Why is having good oral hygiene important?  Bacteria exist in your mouth  Bacteria can cause infection  Gums, mouth, and teeth hurt  You can become sick  Teeth can decay or even fall out!

Problems from Bad Oral Hygiene  Cavity  Root canal done to fix cavity in root of tooth  Gum disease  Bad breath!!

Oral Health  The following are ways to have good oral health and keep your mouth and body healthy & have a bright smile!

Brushing your teeth!  Removes plaque on teeth and gums  Helps freshen breath  Helps whiten teeth  2 minutes, twice a day!

Flossing!  Gets plaque and food debris out from between your teeth where your tooth brush cannot reach  “Works out” gums to keep them healthy

Overall body Health and Oral Health  Diet  Exercise

Diet  What you eat accounts for approximately 70% of your health!  Diet has a huge influence on the overall health of your body and the health of your mouth.

Drinks  Soda & energy drinks  Coffee and dark drinks  Water & milk

Food  Foods with added sugar or candy  Healthy foods such as lean meats, vegetables, whole grains and fruits are best!

Exercise & not smoking  Helps prevent gum disease

Answer a question to get a prize!  Apart from eating bad foods and drinks, what is something that you should absolutely not do if you want to have a healthy body, mouth, and white teeth? (hint: it was on the exercise slide)  Smoke! Smoking is very bad for your teeth and entire body!!

Activity Time!  Break into 4 groups  Groups will rotate amongst the 4 stations
