Temperate Forests

Temperate Forest Biomes Also called deciduous forests because the main trees are deciduous trees (Trees that loose their leaves for winter ex. Oak, Elms, Maples) Climate – Cold to moderate temperatures, high moisture Soil – Rich soil in some areas poor soil in rocky areas Rainfall – 40-50cm and above 50cm near mountains

Temperate Forest Biomes Grow in areas with cold winters and warm summers Have four distinct seasons –Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring

Appalachian Mountains

Temperate Forest Biomes Plant Adaptations Trees and ferns are abundant Deciduous trees shed their leaves yearly Specialized seeds

Temperate Forest Biomes Animal Adaptations Animals May hibernate or migrate Animals may live in trees, burrows or the forest floor Many animals are nocturnal Gathering nuts and acorns
