Prior background: The rule of Czar Alexander III (Father of Nicholas II) No reforms Total Power Do not question his ability, authority, etc Used harsh measures for anyone against him Secret police Forbade any outside cultures within Russia

#1: Who was the last ruling Czar of Russia? Czar Nicholas II Romanov family ruled Russia for the last 300 years Will fall with his reign

#2: How was Russia under the rule of Czar Nicholas II? Almost like his father’s (Alexander III) Did not want to surrender any power Did not want to face new ideas or changes Russia lagged behind in industry and advancements from the rest of Europe Gap between rich and poor grew rapidly Wanted to ignore the cries of the people Unsteady, unstable, downwind of power
