The network of european laboratories (for the improvement of testing and measuring on appliances) Jean Schweitzer Danish Gas Technology Centre

Why a network of laboratories? Application of standards & directives shall be independant from the lab where the appliance is tested (appliances shall be effective and safe for the user independantly where tested) This cannot be achieved without lab collaboration. The network is more than ever needed with EU enlargement.

The objectives of the network The resolution of the existing measurement problems (efficiency and emissions of appliances) in order to, improve the interlaboratory reproducibility between the partners (members of the network); The network is an information exchange platform on measurement aspects. The sharing of experience on new instruments, new procedures etc. lowers the cost (sharing the expenses)

Field of work of the network Mainly boilers But also: Hot water appliances Cookers And in the future: Micro CHP Heat pumps Fuel cells

FRANCE: Gaz de France CETIAT : GREECE: ATHENS UNIVERSITY HOLLAND: GASTEC UK PORTUGAL SPAIN: CATIM REPSOL BELGIUM: ARGB CSTC Liège University ITALY: ITALGAS GASTEC ITALIA GERMANY: POLAND: COREA IKE, OWI Oil & Gas I. How it started (in 1991) Intercomparison (gas boiler)

Minimum Maximum Reproducibility R = 4.5% rel. INTERCOMPARISON 1991

The reproducibility (R) is the value, below which the absolute difference between two single test results obtained with the same method on identical test material, under different conditions (different operators, different apparatus, different laboratories, and different time) may be expected to lie with a specified probability of 95% (ISO 5725).
