How to say long numbers L195 Unit 5 Attività 5.5

Long numbers are compound words made up of several individual elements joined together. In order to say them properly, you will have to remember that each element keeps its original stress so there are several stressed syllables rather than just one. For example: mille (1000) milleduecentotrenta 1230 duecento (200) trenta (30)

Compound words have a syllable with primary stress (the syllable where the main stress falls, usually the one closer to the end of the word) and syllables with secondary stress (the syllables where the stress originally fell when the elements were separate) milleduecentotrenta

1230 mille (1000) duecento (200) trenta (30) milleduecentotrenta Let’s say it together one more time.

fine della prima guerra mondiale unità d’Italia inizio della dittatura fascista Roma diventa capitale d’Italia Now listen to these dates. Do you know why they are important?

Now listen and repeat. Make sure you put the stress on the highlighted sounds mille ottocento sessantuno mille ottocento settanta mille novecento diciotto mille novecento ventidue

fine della seconda guerra mondiale fine della Monarchia e inizio della Repubblica entra in circolazione l’Euro fondazione della Comunità Economica Europea Now listen to some more dates. Do you know why they are important? 1945

Let’s try them all again. Say the dates, then listen, check your pronunciation and repeat. mille ottocento sessantuno mille ottocento settanta mille novecento diciotto mille novecento ventidue

And again: say these dates, then listen, check your pronunciation and repeat. mille novecento quarantacinque mille novecento quarantasei mille novecento cinquantasette duemila due
