1 Reader’s Workshop Essential question:
How can we identify the beginning, middle, end sounds in words? CCS:RF 2- Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes)

2 What? Why? How? What –Today we identify the beginning, middle, and end sounds in words Why- knowing how to identify sounds will help us learn to read words. How- We will participate in a mini-lesson, guided practice, independent practice, and small group activities.

3 Mastery By the end of this lesson we will be able to identify the beginning, middle, end sounds in words I can identify the middle sound to read words.

4 Building Background We have learned that each letter makes a specific sound. Let’s review the sounds the letters make.

5 Vocabulary Blend- to put sounds together to make words.

6 Power teaching Class: We can use our sounds to help us write words we don’t know how to spell. Teach: Explain to your partner how to write words you don’t know how to spell.

7 Check for Understanding
Use your sounds to spell the words.

8 Connection There are many times we will get to words we don’t know. We can blend sounds together to help figure out words we don’t know. Think, pair, share: ways to figure out words you don’t know.
