Los verbos -ar Español 1

Infinitives Verbs ending in -ar, -er and -ir are called infinitives. They are the basic forms of the verbs. They mean “to” do the activity.

Conjugating verbs You conjugate a verb by breaking it down into all of its forms. There are 6 forms in Spanish. We will not be covering the vosotros form. It is used only in Spain.

Steps to follow take off the ar The word that remains is the stem add the correct ending to the stem This works for all regular verbs.

hablar- to speak yo hablo (I speak) tú hablas (you speak) él/ellahabla Usted (He/she speaks) (you (f) speak) nosotros hablamos (we speak) ellos/ellas hablan ustedes (They/you all speak)

Unas cosas importantes In Spanish, there is a verb form for every subject. (6 total) The verb must always agree with the subject. You have to remember to match the subject with the correct ending.
