+ Learning Target Students will write an expository text so that they can clearly and concisely communicate ideas and information about our future.

+ Expository Writing The main purpose of an expository piece is to instruct, give information, or explain something. Text organization Clearly stated topic sentence (thesis statement) A body with facts, examples, or reasons used to support your topic Conclusion that restates but does not introduce new ideas.

+ Introduction should include A hook or attention grabber! Ask a question Use a quote Use a short story Your introduction should start out with a broad topic and end with a specific thesis statement.

+ Other expectations Use transition words between reasons or ideas Indent your paragraphs to clearly show the change between ideas First and Final draft will need to be typed Times New Roman Font 12 point font double spaced At least one full page. First Draft and Outline due next Wednesday, March 2, 2016 to edit in class.
