Introduction Hello my name is Carolyn Ortega. Before moving to Texas four years ago, me, my husband and our four children lived in Florida where I owned and operated my own Family Child Care Home working with all different age children. I started online classes here at Ashford in 2011 working on my BA in Early Childhood Education in the hopes of opening my own head start program class.

My Interests: I love going camping. Having movie night at home. Cooking, baking. Spending time with my family.

Types of School I attended public school my whole life. One experience that did make a great difference in my life even to this day. As a child we were poor and I was on the heavy side. I was made fun of and called names by my classmates. Everyday at recess they would gather around me on the swings and sing this one song, “fatty fatty two-by-four Carolyn can’t fit through the front door.”

Types of school cont. I would sit on the swing and cry the whole time. One day a teacher stepped up and took me under her wing she kept telling me how special I was and no matter what those children said I was very beautiful, and to always remember that words do not make a person it is what that person has on the inside that counts. To this day I teach my own children that you never make fun of anyone.

Future Hopes I hope to work in a public school setting for a couple of years working with elementary children. I still have my dream of opening my own head start class.

Master’s Degree By having a Master’s degree in Education will help me to earn more money therefore being able to move closer and faster to my career goal.
