 They are commonly nonsensical or bawdy in nature and commonly considered outside the realm of ‘cultivated poetry.’ That’s why they’re perfect for junior high!  A limerick is meant to be read aloud. If it doesn’t sound right, add or subtract syllables to make it flow better.

 A limerick is a short poem native to Ireland that is usually humorous and only contains 5 lines.  Limericks follow a strict AABBA rhyme scheme. What does this mean?

There once was a school called Orion A One teacher was fierce as a lion A He talked to his class B Wouldn’t put up with sas B And when all the kids left they were cryin’ A

 Remember the 1 st, 2 nd, and 5 th lines rhyme together.  Lines 3 and 4 rhyme with each other.  Lets try one together…
