Space? What space? Oh, it is all about space. Anne K. Seymour, M.S. Director, Welch Medical Library Johns Hopkins University Teaching and Learning in New Library Spaces: The Changing Landscape of Health Sciences Libraries April 18, 2016

Welch Medical Library Building

What does lack of central, public space mean for us? Benefits Don’t have to handle leaks; problems with lighting, bathrooms, technology, hours, security We are tenants! Reduced handling of student/user complaints Minimal staffing of remaining library service point Staff love the office space at our remote campus location Can focus on all other services and resources

What does our lack of central, public space mean for us? Challenges Still identified with the building: have to handle security, facility issues “I thought the Library closed” “I didn’t think you had books in the Library” Distributed staff locations Staff work space Team building Staff meetings

What does lack of central, public space mean for us? Opportunities Collaboration & Partnerships Integration Innovation
