Who are you? Describe yourself  What program are you in?  Year?  Location?  Content/grade-level interest?  Career goals if not planning on teaching?  Any other interesting fact Create an introduction on Bb Thread as part of your 1 st day attendance check-in  Feel free to upload an image of you or something that symbolizes you!

Course Overview Reading/Literacy permeates all content areas not just ELA classes Strategies/Approaches to teaching reading in specific content areas 3 req’d textbooks, 1 recommended Field Experience Requirement  5 hour field placement in a 6-12 classroom  10 hour service learning/tutoring  Clearance documents due Oct.15. Scan & turn in docs to my and CC Jessica Milton in Primarily use Bb Discussion Boards. Familiarize yourself with Blackboard if you haven’t done so already. All Students (except for PTOs)should have a Chalk & Wire Acct.

How is this online class structured? Weekly reading responses are due Wednesdays by 5 pm on Bb.  Discussion Topics will be outlined in DB Threads All other assignments due to SafeAssign unless told otherwise. Midterm in October – Ahhh! (Relax, it’s take home) Follows face-to-face class course outline

It’s imperative that you Read the syllabus Complete the readings Stay on-task with weekly assignments. * Because of the nature of this class, it is extremely difficult to make up work if you fall behind Participate in thoughtful Discussion Boards * Saying “I agree,” “Good point,” or “Interesting idea” are NOT well-thought out, thorough discussion comments. You will not be given credit for those types of reading responses and comments. Ask questions if you don’t understand Consistently check your and our Bb site. * In the event an assignment is modified in any way, saying “I didn’t get the ” or things of the like will not excuse you Make sure you have reliable internet as technology can be tricky. Back up plans (i.e. library, neighbor’s, school campus) with other internet alternatives are a good idea. Use this class a great learning opportunity to help improve your teaching skills.
