WELCOME TO MANAGERIAL ECONOMICS MT 445 Discussion of Syllabus and Expectations in the Class

AUDIO ENHANCED SEMINAR Will have nine seminars; On Thursdays from 9- 10PM EST. Will need a headset to listen to what I am saying You cannot talk, must use the keyboard to respond or ask questions I use the seminars as a means of “lecturing”— covering the material in the chapter. Should read the chapter complete before the seminar session. Please feel free to ask questions about the material or items discussed in the seminar

AUDIO ENHANCED SEMINAR (CONT) Type “??” if you have a question and I will respond as soon as possible Please try to minimize the “cross talk” between students Seminars are mandatory. If you missed the seminar and want to receive credit, then you need to do an alternative assignment. Please see instructions in Seminar. You can see recorded seminars later. I am prepared to discuss general questions about the homework in the seminar sessions. Please review the questions before the seminar

INTRODUCTORY STATEMENTS Introductory statements are part of Unit 1 assignments This is not a graded exercise Used to introduce each other and help to develop a classroom atmosphere Please post the introduction early in the week If you don’t post an introduction by next Monday, I will contact you to “get you on board”

UNIT REVIEW (QUIZ) One review for Units 1-9 10 multiple choice questions, total of 10 points/unit These count toward the final grade These must be taken during the week the unit is available You can take the review as many times as you want during the time it is open; however, once the unit closes, your most recent submission is the one that is graded and counted If you miss the review and the unit closes, it will not be re- opened except for extreme emergencies. Grade will not be available until several days after the unit closes

PROJECT ASSIGNMENTS There is an assignment for units 1-9 The questions are provided in the Assignment section. Each project is worth 30 points and count toward final grade No need to use APA formatting or reference the textbook as a source Put in the drop box specified for each unit

PROJECT ASSIGNMENTS (CONT) Due at the time the unit closes Tuesday at midnight. I grade the discussion by Friday and the rest during the weekend and will award a grade of “0” if you have not submitted Will accept late projects, subject to Kaplan’s late policy and posted grade will be changed –No project will be accepted after 14 days past the due date –Important to stay current with the projects—when students fall behind, it is difficult to catch up I am prepared to discuss general questions about the homework in the seminar sessions. Please review the questions before the seminar

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS There are two discussion questions in units 1-9 Each unit discussion is worth 30 points toward the final grade. You must answer the two questions and provide two “cross” postings to fellow students in each question under each topic question. In order to earn maximum credit, must make the initial post early in the week (by Friday) Important to spread postings out evenly throughout the entire week. The discussion closes when the unit closes and will not be re-opened

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS (CONT) Contributions must contain relevant content that added to the flow of the discussion There are no “wrong” answers—grade will not be reduced if you make a wrong statement I use the discussion questions to reinforce material in the textbook. I remain engaged during the week and will make comments, especially if you make an error that needs correcting. Please don’t get your feelings hurt if I correct you

Journal & Written Assignment You will have to write in Learning Journal four times. Each journal is worth 20 points and counts toward final grade. You will have a written assignment in Unit 10. This is worth 25 points and counts toward final grade.

FINAL EXAM Taken during Week 10 (last unit) 50 multiple choice questions, each worth 2 points for a total of 100 points This exam counts toward the final grade average Can be taken as many times during the week; however, once the unit closes, the most recent submission is graded and posted Grade will not be available until several weeks after the course closes

KAPLAN E-MAIL and INSTRUCTOR’S OFFICE Please check you Kaplan e-mail on a regular basis This is the only means of contacting the entire class or individuals I check my e-mail account on a daily basis and will try to respond as soon as possible to questions Use the “Instructor’s Office” for questions relating to the course material—this will be seen by everybody so don’t make personal comments

ANNOUNCEMENTS I use the “Announcement” portion of the Course Homepage to post the following information (please check regularly): –Essays that I have written or other material to enhance the course content for each unit. This material will either be in the announcement section or loaded in “doc.sharing” –Information regarding the new unit –Information regarding the posting of grades –Other relevant information concerning the course
