Road to Winter Unit#1 Road conditions are generally good to WU1. The road is well maintained in winter due to quarry/lumber activity further up the road.

This is the only designated parking area at Winter Unit 1 There is enough room for two vehicles and one trailer, or combination thereof. All other vehicles/trailers must go in the Main Parking Lot.

Lots of tent space here! Winter Unit 1 has the most useable (and largest) tenting space of all five of our winter units.

The Center Lodge The Center Lodge has a brand new roof and a vintage, functioning wood burning oven. Winter Unit One is the closest unit to the Climbing Tower and the Nature Lodge.

Latrine Both the sink and outside faucet have seasonal water only.

Pump house The water here is available in all four seasons. Its treated and lab tested. Pump house is heated and locked.

Central fire pit and wash stand The fire pit is shared among all occupants of the Winter Unit. Note washstand (with seasonal water) to the rear. It is for personal hygiene only – no dishwashing!

Wood burning oven This vintage wood burning oven/stove does function. It features a copper water reservoir on the left to heat water. Food can be cooked/warmed on top of the stove too. Really!

Inside the Center Lodge Here you’ll find a woodstove, refrigerator, and various tables/chairs.

Food preparation area Lotsa space to spread out your cooking gear! Please be sure to empty the cabinets before you leave. Leaving it for the next guy is a bad idea!

Lean-to #2 This lean-to is the closest one to Summit Lake and the Lake Trail

Lean-to #3 This lean-to is the 2 nd closest to Summit Lake, and Lake Trail. It is also close to the B6 trail which can be used to access the Bear Caves and Plateau Area.

Lean-to #4 Closest to the latrine

Trail to Summit Lake Lean-to#3 is directly to the right in this picture. Straight ahead is Summit Lake and the Lake Trail. The Outdoor Chapel is within a minutes walk as well!
