INDEPENDENT ‘END-POINT’ ASSESSMENT City & Guilds is an approved ‘end-assessment organisation’ for the Trailblazer Centres will be approved by City and Guilds to offer ‘end-assessment examinations (knowledge and practical) Centres interested in offering ‘end-assessment’ examinations should contact Chris Bailey at City & Guilds is currently finalising the ‘end-assessment’ (knowledge and practical) and these will be available in 2017 (confirm date with Ewa) City & Guilds will be in contact with centres about approval for ‘end-assessment’ tests later this year

NEW APPRENTICESHIP BASED ON C&G 7189 PLUS WORKBOOK On Programme (off the job) 20% of time (at college) On Programme ( on the job) 80% of time (at work) Day release/block release – over 3 years (off the job) At work –skills, knowledge & behaviours developed over 3 years of the programme. (on the job)

BASED ON C&G 7189 PLUS WORKBOOK Level 2 – Same format, similar units same mix of evolve + assignments – different emphasis. Level 3 – Same format, similar units, assessed by assignment – more emphasis on application of knowledge,skills and behaviours.

LEVEL 2 – CHANGE IN EMPHASIS From knowledge acquisition and regurgitation To knowledge acquisition,application and use. From ‘define’ the gas laws To ‘use’ the gas laws when tight testing a system. (Charles (isochoric) law)

LEVEL 2 – CHANGE IN EMPHASIS From ‘define’ the first and second laws of the thermodynamics. To ‘use’ the first and second laws when fault-finding or commissioning a system.

LEVEL 2 – CHANGE IN EMPHASIS From using Ohm’s Law to ‘calculate’ overall resistance in a parallel circuit. To using Ohm’s law to ‘fault find’ in a safely isolated electrical circuit.

LEVEL 2 – SUMMARY CHANGE IN EMPHASIS: To acquire, apply and use basic knowledge, skills and behaviour, with any simple RACHP system. To recognise that the vapour compression cycle is the same for all RACHP systems at any operating temperature level.

LEVEL 3 More or less the same as More emphasis on working with systems and refrigerants suited to the current and future environmental requirements. Designed to develop further the basic knowledge, skills and behaviours towards the Engineering Technician level.

LEVEL 3 PREPARATION FOR ACCESS TO FINAL ENDPOINT ASSESSMENT Knowledge – ‘synoptic’ on line examination Skills – ‘synoptic’ practical examination

WORKBOOK During the 3 year programme, the apprentice will be keeping a workbook to record skills, knowledge and behaviours development, while at work.

WORKBOOK EXAMPLE While working on an installation the apprentice will RECORD how Knowledge, Skills & Behaviours (KSBs) are applied ‘on the job’. KSBs related to: Work planning, H&S regulations and standards, communication, pipework fabrication and jointing, pressure testing, evacuation and dehydration, charging and commissioning, system handover.

WORKBOOK EXAMPLE In the first year assisting others but recording practices and personal involvement. By the third year leading others to carry out installations, taking responsibility for jobs.

WORKBOOK Work book will plot progress of apprentice throughout the ‘on the job’ element Workbook will assist apprentice to access end point assessment and pass through the ‘Gateway’

TO PASS THROUGH GATEWAY Apprentice will have successfully completed City & Guilds 2079 Category 1 F-Gas Level 2 and Level 3 Workbook

FINAL APPRENTICESHIP ‘END POINT’ ASSESSMENT C&G set and marked Evolve Examination. C&G set, approved centre assessed, practical Examination. Completed Workbook ALL CONTRIBUTE TO APPRENTICESHIP GRADING BY AN INDEPENDENT BOARD

SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF END POINT ASSESSMENTS Provides now ‘qualified’ RACHP Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Completion Certificate evidence towards Engineering Council registration at Engineering Technician Level.
