Warm up 20 Lab

Warm up 21 Answer the following questions honestly and completely. How did this writing unit go? What did you learn from it? What could I do better to help students the next time? After answering this question, take out your outline, and both rough drafts from the writing unit

Warm up 22 Using a complete sentence, answer this question: What was the most interesting fact about the Puritans that you learned yesterday?

Warm up 23 Write down this definition: Hysteria- exaggerated or uncontrollable emotion or excitement, especially among a group of people. Think about when we have seen hysteria in our society and write down an example.

Warm up 24 What are you looking forward to this weekend? 3 complete sentences.

Warm up 25 Based off of what we know about the Puritans, hysteria, McCarthyism, and the witch craft trials, make two predictions on what you will see in The Crucible. Remember, these predictions might not necessarily be true in the story! You are making your best guess based on what you know.

Warm up 26 Answer the following questions, using your book if you need to. As the play begins, why has Reverend Parris sent for a doctor? What does the doctor say back? What does Reverend Parris question Abigail about? What is Parris’ main concern? What/who did Parris see in the woods the night before?

Warm up 27 What does Abigail think that Elizabeth Proctor has been telling people? What reason does Abigail give for being dismissed by the Proctors? What do people think Betty has been seen doing? What does Betty “react” to that could be later used as “proof” of witchcraft.

Warm up 28 Why does Mrs. Putnam contact Tituba? Why do the girls accuse others of witchcraft at the end of the act? Who is the first person blamed for witchcraft?

Warm up 29 What is an allegory? What is external conflict?

Warm up 34 Welcome back! Refresh your memory on what we left off on by skimming through what we had read so far in Act 3 and writing three complete sentences here to summarize.

Warm up 35 As of now, we can answer number 4 on your DJ. Write “DJ” as your warm up 35 and look at pages for #4.

Warm up 37 Write down the following words and definitions Irony- contrast between appearance and reality- usually one in which is the opposite from what it seems Situational irony- the contrast between what a reader or character expects and what actually happens Dramatic irony- the reader knows something that the character does not know.

Warm up 36 A foil character is one that provides a striking contrast to another character to help call attention to the traits possessed by both. Which character would you choose as your foil character from The Crucible? Explain why with a specific example. What have they done that makes their character have a striking contrast to you?

Warm up 38 Write down this term, definition and example. Metaphor- a comparison of two things that identifies one thing as being another unrelated item in order to highlight/show similarities. – Ex- Ms. Stermer is a bear.
