Q: To which organisations do these logos belong?

A: This is the United Nations logo. The UN began on 24th October 1945 when many countries joined together to try and prevent the kind of devastation of world wide war which had happened twice in the space of the previous 30 years. This is the United Nations Humanitarian Refugee Agency logo. The UNHRA began on 14 th December It was only meant to exist for 3 years but is still working hard today. It aids displaced persons fleeing persecution.

What exactly is a refugee? What exactly is a refugee? Share your ideas as a group before seeing what the UNHRA has to say.

The 1951 Refugee Convention spells out that a refugee is someone who: "owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion, is outside the country of his nationality, and is unable to, or owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail himself of the protection of that country."
