Trio Questions We have recently read two entirely different pieces in which two women provide arguably different definitions of poverty. What is YOUR definition of poverty? In contrast, what is your definition of wealth? How do you think this compares to ways in which Collier and Parker portray poverty?

Trio Questions Remember, TONE is the aTTiTude an author reveals abouT a Topic, subjecT, or character in a written work. How would you describe Parker’s tone in “What is Poverty?” What language in the piece leads you to this idea? Would you describe Collier’s tone in a similar way? Why or why not?

This was the beginning of compassion, and one cannot have both compassion and innocence.” What do you think? Can one have both compassion and innocence? What does this mean? Why or why not?
