OUR MISSION The mission of Horizons Student Support Services is to assist students in developing academic, social, and personal skills through holistic services including tutoring, faculty mentoring, peer mentoring, career development, academic support, cultural enrichment, and access to global experiences. These initiatives coupled with a sense of belonging will contribute to a well-rounded and successful Purdue University experience.

STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES “If you want to meet friendly people, have access to great resources, or alleviate those jitters everyone gets when they first start college, then Horizons will be perfect for you! I can wholeheartedly say that choosing Horizons put me on the right path to success.” —Jeremy R. Smithes, Electrical Engineering Technology, Class of ’16 First Year Retention* 93.4% Horizons 91.6% University

Horizons - STAR A portion of Horizons staff and student workers will be housed at a remote site during STAR at the CL50 Room 125 to better serve students in a central location. STAR Ambassadors and Academic Advisors will inform students to visit CL50 Room 125 during the allotted breakout session slots for foreign language testing or the information session. If a student visits an academic advisor after the designated time slot and has not visited Horizons, Academic Advisors can inform them of our program and can also call the office so that we may send a student over to escort them to CL We will provide students with an override for our course and students will be able to register during the registration component of their day. Students will know if they have been accepted immediately unless we are at capacity or they are a STAR walk-in.

Horizons - STAR Head advisors will receive a list of incoming students eligible for Horizons per academic college by June 3rd. Horizons will have 80 spaces for incoming freshman students this year (a total across all colleges). Rolling intake during STAR – “First come first serve”, however we will take into account those colleges who will not host students until later in the STAR process. Head advisors will be notified once all student spaces are filled. There are a limited number of transfer student slots available Horizons remains open to advisor referrals for students who are not on eligibility list that the advisor thinks could really benefit from our services

6 Horizons Currently serves approximately 438 Purdue University students above capacity of 340 Consistently surpassed University and Pell Eligible Retention Rates Largest TRIO SSS program in Indiana Recent goal of a 66% graduation was surpassed by 14% Home away from home
