2 Learning Center What is a Learning Center? A Learning Center is a place where learning is enhanced. The mission of a Learning Center is to help students become successful learners (Wendy Randall).mission

5 Other Resources Video resources for Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, Spanish, History, English, and Math are available at the LC.

6 Audio tapes for Spanish, Music, and skills- building can be copied for home use, or listened to in the LC.

7 Laboratory Instruction All ISP (Intermediate Studies Programs), COS (College Skills) and ESL (English as a Second Language) courses require 28 hours of lab time per semester. The staff at the Learning Center, under the direction of the Instructors, facilitate these labs and keep a logbook for each student of the hours they have worked.

8 Student Support Services SSS is a federally funded TRIO program that assists students with disabilities; it also offers support to those who are low- income or first generation students. It is now part of the LC at UCCC.

9 Misconceptions: A Learning Center IS NOT the same thing as a high school resource room. A Learning Center IS NOT a library. A Learning Center IS NOT a resource available only to those who need remedial or developmental services.

10 A Learning Center IS: A place to “ensure that students have the best possible opportunities to succeed” (Randall). A place to “support and encourage students” (Randall). A place to connect to the college and other students, and discover resources.

11 The Learning Center IS A friendly and supportive place for all students, faculty and staff to avail themselves of the numerous resources provided by UCCC to enhance the learning experience. If there is a need for a study group, a workshop, or just a lesson in how to crash a computer and walk away unscathed, the Learning Center is the place to be.
