Is the Domain Name System the heart of the internet?

The heart?

What is the Domain Name System Domain Name System = DNS “The connection between many computers through an internet connection” Routing through the internet Each part of the route has a label IP address is all the labels together DNS name is given to the IP address DNS name is given to the final computer URL is a letter form of the IP address.

3 main components The special database The DNS database Stores the Domain Name Space Contains every label and path through the internet Enables the same path to be used again and again

3 main components The name server Contains the DNS database Accessed by the client Crucial link between DNS database and the client

3 main components The client The user of the internet Can be multiple clients Wanting to access the internet or another client DNS is only required when a client is present The resolver

How big is the DNS? Compared to the rest of the internet Physically it’s a lot smaller A lot less interesting information Very large capabilities Deals with every connection on the internet

Can the law of the land affect DNS There are NO major laws

Can anything stop DNS Short term issues DNS database failing The name server failing Long term issue Every IP address being used

NO way of knowing the correct path NO way of creating an IP address The internet would be useless Is the Domain Name System the heart of the internet?
