About Me  Arizona Native  Peoria High School Class of ‘88  16 th Year at Thunderbird  Veteran of United States Navy  B.A. in English Education from NAU  M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from NAU

Common Core Standards  Recently, Arizona adopted Common Core Standards. The model framework of Common Core integrates reading, writing, and research. Students will be required to read 3-5 Short Stories and one novel per quarter. Moreover, students will also have to write numerous journal entries, 4-6 Literary Analyses, one research project, and one narrative per quarter. Failure to complete these tasks will result in an incomplete for the course.

What is Required  Homework: Two hours per week  Projects Base Writing/Hero Essay: Wednesday, September 4 th Article Summaries: 8/27, 9/6, 9/20, 10/4, 10/25, 11/22 Resume: Friday, September 20 th Problem/Solution Research Project 11/12 Literary Analysis: 3 rd Quarter Narrative Essay, 4 th Quarter Practice PBA: 3 rd and 4 th Quarters PBA: 4 th Quarter

Absent and Make-up Work Policy  Students have 5 school days to make-up work from an excused absence The student is responsible for getting the work Students can get make-up work  Directly from me (before and after school)  Through  From another student

Late Work Policy  Late assignments will be accepted for half the earned credit up to one week from due date.  All assignments labeled projects are due on date assigned, no exceptions. Plenty of class and preparation time will be given, so being absent will not be a sufficient excuse.
