Welcome, Parents of the class of 2017! About me: 12th year teaching, all at PR Attended Lewis University for undergraduate and graduate school English teacher, Reading Specialist Pursuing a School Leadership Masters

Study skills/note taking with non-fiction Goal Setting Annotation and Reflection of fiction Articles of the week Formative and Summative grades (focus on progress) *notebooks, bookmarks, independent book

3 Policies & Procedures Late Work Absent Work
All work not turned at the beginning of the period is considered late. Late assignments may be turned in the next day for half credit but will receive a score of 0 thereafter. Late Major Assignments: Late major assignments will lose a letter grade for each day late. Absent Work Students have two days for each day they are gone to turn in their work. It is their responsibility to find out what they have missed.

4 Parents’ Role: How Can You Help?
Ask your child specific questions about what he/she is reading. Read student reflections and discuss them—all should be in their notebooks Encourage extra reading at home Encourage your children to go over their notes again and re-read parts of assigned reading Encourage students to use the Literacy Center
