What It Takes o Yesterday’s mechanic has become today’s highly-trained expert technician. o Today’s sophisticated vehicles require a complex understanding of electronics and computers. o Computerized databases, scan tools and diagnostic equipment are used on a daily basis to access information and apply it to fix the vehicle. o In collision repair, lasers are used to straighten frames and computers match paint with remarkable accuracy. o Continuous technological advances require a commitment to lifelong learning and continuing education. o It all starts with a high school diploma and, ideally, a two-year degree from a technical college program specializing in automotive service or collision repair.
