Most families struggle with meeting the needs of school age children who need after school care. To bridge the gap between school and home while keeping children safe, MAC vows to make a commitment to our community to provide services and education to local families in order to promote healthy food choices and increased physical activity after school. We strive to decrease health problems associated with childhood obesity, by giving children and their families the necessary tools to promote healthy family units in our communities. Our Service

Service need for “Mission for Area Children “ Many children do not have adequate supervision or a safe place to go after school. In fact, many children go home to an empty house after school. These children are referred to as “latch key kids”, going home to an empty house while parents work to provide for their families. MAC, is a non-profit afterschool program that provides a safe haven targeting middle school children after school providing physical activity and healthy afterschool snacks to those children who are in need. Our aim is to teach and protect children, but our overall focus is improving our community through children and family engagement. Benefits of: Mission for Area Children  Health and public safety by deterring at risk behaviors and promoting positive interaction among school age children.  Improves self-esteem in middle school children through adult supervised activities after school.  Supports youth development through activities and supervised socialization  Creates stronger individuals,families and communities through volunteerism and advocacy.

Strategic Planning through Collaborative Innovation The aim of vision and mission statements is to capture the essence of the organizations core values and beliefs while keeping in mind the overall goals and objectives, outlining a plan where the ultimate vision is realized through a collaborative effort. Vision- A dream or vision to be achieved. Mission- A statement of business and reason for existence. Goals- Results to be achieved are measured, directed towards vision and mission. Objectives- How actions and interventions plan to achieve the desired results. (Nurnberger,2012)

MAC’s Philosophy Philosophy: Our community of nurses is committed to provide services and education to the local families in order to promote healthy food choices and increased physical activity. We strive to decrease health problems associated with childhood obesity, by giving children and their families the necessary tools to promote healthy choices.

Our goals are consistent with our philosophy and mission statement’s. We are committed to the families in our community to improve their health by educating children and families about the benefits of healthy eating and physical activity. Physical Activity: To ensure that the children of Fennville Public schools have access to after school programs that will increase their physical activity. Healthy Eating: To ensure Fennville Public School children can identify 3 healthy snacks by March 1, MAC Goals

Our objectives demonstrate the commitment that we have to creating a program that works for working families. Our staff will take time to mentor and educate both children and parents so that as a family unit, they benefit from our services. Physical Activity: To create an after school program that offers physical education, transportation home, and increasing the knowledge of physical education activities where 50% of children will attend by March 1,2016. Healthy Eating: Objective: To educate Fennville Public School children and their families regarding healthy food choices and understanding food labels by March 1, MAC Objectives

Job Descriptions President/CEO Oversees operational affairs, voice of organization, makes the final decision based on collaboration from all members and ensures that the mission, goals and objectives are met. Qualifications include a Bachelors of Business Management/Marketing degree. Vice President of Safety Oversees community relations, compiles data from community services and ensures that food and safety requirements are met. Directly reports to the President/CEO. Qualifications include a Bachelors of Communication Degree. Treasurer The treasurer will be in charge of the budget for the program, allocates funds and organizes fundraising opportunities to raise money for special programs. Directly reports to the President/CEO. Qualifications include an Associate Degree in Accounting or Finance. Director of Volunteer Services Solicits donations from outside agencies and allocates them to appropriate manager, coordinates recruitment and containment of volunteers for program. Reports to the President/CEO, Vice President of Safety, or the Treasurer. Qualifications include an Associates Degree in Business. Manager of Nutrition Coordinates and implements nutritional guidelines and menus based on donations. Directly reports the needs for supplies in order to continue program on a timely basis to the Volunteer Services. Reports to the President/CEO, Vice President of Safety, or the Treasurer. Qualifications include a Registered Dietitian. Manager of Physical Activity Coordinates and implements activities for children, ensures safety of activities. Directly reports the needs for supplies on a timely basis to the Volunteer Services. Reports to the President/CEO, Vice President of Safety, or the Treasurer. Qualifications include a Certified Fitness Trainer or a graduate of an accredited Physical Education program.
