IB-MYP Model

What the IB-MYP Is… IB-MYP is for ALL students IB-MYP focuses on world cultures and World Languages IB-MYP uses a holistic approach to learning, where subjects are linked together IB-MYP has a community service "action" component IB-MYP is a framework for teaching, which aligns with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS)

IB instruction should: Be significant, engaging, relevant and challenging Be conceptually based and contextually framed Involve students in a range of learning experiences that are planned through inquiry questions (factual, conceptual and debatable) Build on students’ prior knowledge Help students to develop attributes of the IB learner profile Include a summative assessment that gives students an opportunity to demonstrate their achievement of the unit Invite students to reflect on their learning and encourage them to engage in principled action. From: From Principles Into Practice MYP Units

Conceptual Learning

Conceptual Framework Helps students connect facts and topics to more complex, conceptual understanding Allows for transferring knowledge and understanding across disciplines and subjects Have important interconnections and overlapping concerns Concepts are universal, abstract, and timeless

Identity Map

Connect Identity to Texts and the World I Am Malala Common Core State Standard - CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.CCRA.R.3: Analyze how and why individuals, events, or ideas develop and interact over the course of a text.

Our Schools, Our Neighborhoods

In their first math unit, the sixth grade classes studied segregation in Chicago Public Schools. We used a variety of data modeling tools to examine racial, socioeconomic, and academic trends in schools across the city. This unit was aligned with Common Core State Standards 6.SP.A.1, 2, and 3, and S.SP.B.4 and 5. Students wrote essays to summarize their learning, which were sent to a special correspondent at NPR. Our Schools, Our Neighborhoods

Being of Service Students in 303 and 308 raised money for two different causes this year. 303 supported people in Flint, MI affected by the lead poisoning crisis. 308 raised funds to support UNICEF’s efforts in the fight against ZIKA virus in South and Central America.

Did you know…? Fun fact… I’m Agassiz’s resident IB Diploma Programme graduate! I gained… Strong writing skills Critical reading and thinking skills Exposure to international texts, philosophy, advanced sciences, and college-level math Community service mindset
