Direct and indirect object pronouns in the same sentence Unidad 4A

Direct object pronouns The direct object (complemento directo) is the noun on which an action is being performed. A direct object may be replaced by a direct object pronoun (pronombre del complemento directo): me, te, lo, la, nos, os, los, las. The direct object pronoun goes before the conjugated verb or is attached to the infinitive. Susana busca el nuevo libro. Susana lo busca. Susana quiere ver la película. Susana quiere verla. (Susana la quiere ver.)

The indirect object (complemento indirecto) is the person for whom or to whom an action is performed. The indirect object is used with a pronoun that refers to the noun, and is called the indirect object pronoun (pronombre del complemento indirecto): me, te, le, nos, os, les. Indirect object pronouns

When both a direct object pronoun and an indirect object pronoun are used in the same sentence, the indirect object pronoun goes first. Susana nos regala el libro a nosotros. Susana nos lo regala.

If the indirect object pronoun le or les comes before the direct object pronouns la, lo, las, or los, the indirect object pronoun changes to se. Nosotros le regalamos flores a Clara. Nosotros se las regalamos.

Since the indirect object pronouns le, les, and se can refer to him, to her, to them, or to you, it is often necessary to provide additional information by adding a + the corresponding noun to avoid confusion. Le pido favores a mi hermano, pero le hago favores a mi hermana.

Direct and indirect object pronouns can either precede conjugated verbs or be attached to infinitives and present participles. An accent mark must be added to the infinitive and the present participle to maintain appropriate stress. Se lo vamos a contar a Uds. más tarde. Vamos a contárselo a Uds. más tarde. Se la estoy escribiendo a él. Estoy escribiéndosela a él.

In affirmative commands the object pronouns are attached to the command forms. Note that if the command form with the attached pronoun is three syllables or longer, it requires an accent mark over the stressed syllable. Dáselo a ella.Give it to her. Escúchala, te dice la verdad. Listen to her, she’s telling you the truth. Préstamelas.Lend them to me.
