Second European Eye Epidemiology Workshop Bordeaux June 28-29, 2012

Scope of the E3 consortium : « Promote and sustain collaboration and sharing of data and knowledge in the field of ophthalmic epidemiology in Europe, in particular for : - harmonization of methods (classification of visual outcomes, measures of risk factors…) - estimation of frequency and impact of visual outcomes in European populations (visual impairment, eye diseases…) - identification of risk factors and pathways for eye diseases (genetics, lifestyle, vascular and metabolic factors…) - development and validation of prediction models for eye diseases - building capacity and expertises in ophthalmic epidemiology - communicating findings and recommandations to public and policy makers - with the ultimate objective of improving eye bcare and reducing blindness»

E3 Consortium groups 19 teams from 12 European countries, Performing epidemiological studies including more than subjects

Actions to be taken: -Updating summary of studies (Excel template : informations and items) : -New template sent by Rotterdam before July 15 -Answers expected before August 31 -Final definition of executive committee and workgroups: -Sent by Bordeaux before July 15 -Answers expected August 31 -Signing Memorandum of understanding : -Sent by Bordeaux before August 31 -Signed by September 30

Actions to be taken: -Executive committee : First teleconference before August 31 -Chair different every year -Monthly tele conference, 60 minutes, pre-defined agenda - In charge of the Memorandum of Understanding, first publication (description of consortium and studies), final approval of all publications and development of website -Workgroups : launched by each leader before September 15 -Monthly teleconference -In charge of : -Defining methods (classification of visual outcomes, eligible studies, data to be collected, statistical analysis plan) -Centralizing the data and performing the statistical analyses -Writing draft of manuscripts, to be submitted to the executive committee. -Development of a website (presentation of E3 consortium to the public ; protected assess for sharing data among workgroups)

Publications : -Methodology paper (executive committee): autumn Prevalence papers (workgroups 1 to 5): -collecting data and analysis in winter 2012, -paper submitted in spring Imaging papers (workgroup 6): -Guidelines papers (OCT, glaucoma) -Projections of eye diseases (workgroup 7): -To be performed after the prevalence papers are written -Genetic epidemiology papers (workgroup 8): -Interactions of AMD with vascular risk factors (smoking, blood lipids, hypertension) : collecting data and analysis in winter 2012, first paper submitted in spring 2013
