Travel in Asia

Asian customs (different from ours) no tipping drinking in public areas spitting on the streets burp and slurp while eating dairy products are not eaten no shoes indoors respect for elders and authority greetings - no handshakes, in Tibet stick out tongue BUT becoming more Western with every generation

Bhutan restricts #s of tourists, you must prearrange trip, NO MacDonalds, not affected by Westernization, known for Buddhist mountain monasteries

Cambodia very poor, landmines in rural areas, Killing Fields, Angor Wat- beautiful temple city rediscovered only 150 years ago

Japan - modern, expensive, Shinto temples, bullet trains, palaces, Zen gardens, nightlife, mountains, kind people

Indonesia 13,500 islands, Dutch colony, rainforest, beautiful beaches- Bali, Komodo dragons, some areas crowded and dirty, damage 2004 tsunami

India crowded- sights, sounds and smells, cows, rickshaws, breathtaking and squalid, tiger game parks, great cities, beaches- Goa, and, of course, the Taj Mahal

Nepal - Himalayas, Kathmandu the capital city, clashes between government and ethnic groups but tourists not targeted, Buddhist monasteries

Vietnam - safe, economy developing quickly, Hanoi capital city, Ha Long bay, beaches, Mekong delta, Ho Chi Min (Saigon) tunnels

UAE- United Arab Emirates - Arab culture, Muslim, desert, beaches, Dubai, safe, shopping, Bedouin lifestyle, extravagant real estate
