CRT REVIEW GUIDE Social Studies Grade 5 Mr. Rochford 2016

The CRT: What to expect... CRT ASSESSMENT- Friday June 10, Periods 1 & 2  Multiple Choice questions that demonstrate content knowledge and map analysis skills. (We will practice analyzing and answering questions using the types of maps during our review)  The assessment will be given on your Laptops using Google Forms.  This will count as a Test Grade for Marking Period Four.

Review & Extra Help We will review in class all week leading up to the assessment. I will be available for Extra Help on the following days: Monday June 6th - (Morning & Afternoon) Tuesday June 7th- (Morning & Afternoon) Thursday June 8th- (Morning & Afternoon) To setup an appointment please me

Political Maps Political maps are designed to show boundaries of countries and states. They can also indicate the location of major cities, and they usually include significant bodies of water.

Physical Maps In addition to country borders, major cities and significant bodies of water, physical maps indicate the location of landforms like deserts, mountains and plains.

Population density Maps Population Density maps display the number of people living per unit (ex: per square mile) of an area.

Economic Maps Economic maps or resource maps feature the type of natural resources or economic activity that dominates an area.

Maps: latitude and longitude Line of Latitude- Lines of latitude measure north-south position between the poles. The equator is defined as 0 degrees, the North Pole is 90 degrees north, and the South Pole is 90 degrees south. Lines of Longitude- Lines of longitude, or meridians, run between the North and South Poles. They measure east-west position. Forms of Government Democracy:A democracy is a government run by the people. Each citizen has a say (or vote) in how the government is run -Example: The United States Communism: A government in which all of the major resources and property is owned by the government and wealth is divided equally among citizens. -Example: China

Global Trade Global Trade is when countries trade goods and services with other countries around the world. Import - a country brings in or buys goods or services from another country. Export- a country sends out goods or services to another country for sale.

The Iberian Peninsula The Iberian Peninsula is landmass containing the countries of Spain and Portugal bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea

The Himalayas The highest mountains on Earth are found in the Himalayas. This great mountain system of southern Asia stretches for about 1,550 miles (2,500 kilometers) from west to east.

The Andes Mountains At around 4,300 miles long, the Andes Mountains make up the world's longest mountain range. The Andes stretch north to south through much of South America’s Pacific Coast.

The Amazon River The Amazon River is 3,980 miles long. It is located in the continent of South America and flows through several countries and It ends at the Atlantic Ocean

The Nile River The Nile is considered the world's longest river (4150 miles); flows northward through eastern Africa into the Mediterranean; the Nile River valley in Egypt was the site of the world's first great civilization
