IEEE R8 90th Committee Meeting Malta, April IEEE R8 Industry Relations S-C WS WS Topics: Introduction and IR S-C intended operative strategy. IR S-C organization and procedures of actions. Advisors. Plan of the IR S-C activities. Standards Activities and IR S-Cs cooperation ISBIR Program recent accomplishments.

IEEE R8 90th Committee Meeting Malta, April IEEE R8 Industry Relations S-C WS (1 / 2) Objectives and main activities planned in 2008 by the R8 IR S-C are outlined in this WS. Continuity with the 2007 goals and actions, which resulted more effective, has been sought. New targets and approaches have been identified, in order to facilitate the establishment of durable relationships of IEEE with Industry in Region 8. IR S-C 2008 Plan and 2007 Report are included in the Agenda Book

IEEE R8 90th Committee Meeting Malta, April IEEE R8 Industry Relations S-C WS (2 / 2) The objectives of the planned actions are quantifiable and the results w.r.t. the expected outputs can be measured. The degree of achievement of the aimed objectives will be evaluated while in progress and at their completion. It is intended to look for various forms of cooperation with bordering Committees and Subcomittees on areas of common interest. Existing and new agreements with national societies and associations of EE engineers will be exploited for common initiatives.

IEEE R8 90th Committee Meeting Malta, April IEEE R8 Industry Relations S-C WS (1 / 3) S-C structure and operative procedures: Since it turns out difficult to effectively manage the relations with the Industry by utilizing common rules, valid over the whole Region 8,, advisors have been appointed in the S-C, each one dedicated to a particular segment of the R8 geographical extension. In this way it is more efficient to interface local entities, characterized by specific industrial and technical culture and organizations. This team of volunteers brings as dowry the knowledge of the rules and can suggest the best approach for effective relations with the industry in their specific geographical area. Five R8 Areas have been defined (North, East, West, Middle East and South) and the relative Advisors have been selected.

IEEE R8 90th Committee Meeting Malta, April IEEE R8 Industry Relations S-C WS Advisors: (2 / 3) Terje Gjengedal (northern area) Dimitri Vavilov (eastern area) Andreas Luxa (western area) Rami Mushcab (middle east area) Nico Beute (southern area) ISBIR Program IR S-C Reference Point: Ferhan Ozkan

IEEE R8 90th Committee Meeting Malta, April IEEE R8 Industry Relations S-C WS Working procedures (3 / 3) Most of the work of the S-C will be carried out by utilizing and other telematics tools. It is considered essential for specific contacts and activity plans to ask for the support and involvement of the local Section Chair and IR Officer. In accordance with the basic principles of operation of the team, responsibility for the achievement of the objectives for each planned action will be clearly assigned.

IEEE R8 90th Committee Meeting Malta, April IEEE R8 Industry Relations S-C WS Activity planning: (1 / 4) Some of the planned activities are continuations or completions of those already started, reviewed from the experience learned lessons. New proposed activities are aiming at the establishing of not occasional collaborations with the Industry by efficient use of the advisors and local volunteers availability and efforts. Contacts have to be with the most prominent high-tech companies, involved in the business areas of interest to the members.

IEEE R8 90th Committee Meeting Malta, April IEEE R8 Industry Relations S-C WS (2 / 4) Survey of the existing IEEE-National Society Agreements in R8 and activation of a common initiative with a number of those where the involvement of the national industries is maximum: Three initiatives at a minimum. Arrangement of permanent collaborations with large national and transnational Companies also with possible financial support agreements. Completion of the started actions.

IEEE R8 90th Committee Meeting Malta, April IEEE R8 Industry Relations S-C WS (3 / 4) Establishing of Industry Affinity Groups with the full involvement of the local IEEE Sections: One pilot IAG for each Area of R8. Survey and updating of the statistics of the number of the members from the Industry and their grade distribution in each Section: Automatization of the existing manual process. Actions for a larger number of Distinguished Lecturers from Industry, also by urging the Industry Application Society: Creation of a dynamically evolving DB of potential DL

IEEE R8 90th Committee Meeting Malta, April IEEE R8 Industry Relations S-C WS (4 / 4) Activation of initiatives to promote career guidance activities among pre-college schools, in cooperation with other R8 S-C, with the objective of attracting more students toward scientific and technical educational areas: One pilot initiative in 2008 in each of the R8 Areas In connection with local Section Officers, programs of visits to industries, promotion of the Industry Awards, industry track and special Industry sessions at IEEE Conferences: Continuation of actions in progress.
