introduction Transformational Leadership is a type of leadership that inspires a revolutionary change in organizations through a obligation to the organizations idea. Transformation leadership has four different characteristics, which are idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individual consideration. Gandhi was a transformational leader by using all these tools to help free his people. He says to his people, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” Gandhi not only said this but worked with everyone to see this goal through. Everything Gandhi would say, he would follow through. He would see everyone as equals and would influence and motivate everyone to do right and fair thing.

The FOUR STEPS Gandhi went through four steps to solve the British problem. They were challenge the process, inspire a shared vision, enable others to act, and model the way. Challenging the Process is where you find something that needs to be improved the most. Inspiring a shared vision is where you are explaining the vision you have, so everyone understands. Friendships need to be created so they can see why change is so important and needed. Enable others to act is giving them the tools and specific steps that need to be taken to achieve the goals. Giving them specific plan of what to do. Model the way is the hard part. This is where you need to demonstrate all the changes. You need to get hands dirty and actually do what your asking of the others.

Overview The purpose of this presentation is to demonstrate all the things Gandhi did throughout his whole life. He has all the characteristics of a transformational leader and he used this to help benefit his people. He succeeded in the independence of India and stopped the civil war.

Challenge the process Gandhi sees two problems in India that need changing. As he is touring India, he looks around and sees many people without homes, and many in major poverty. Gandhi also is becomes informed, by an old man, on how all the landlords of homes, are charging high rent. They won’t accept indigo anymore because it has become a worthless crop. Therefore, all they accept now is cash, which the Indians do not have. http://content.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,2024558_2024522_2024456,00.html

Inspire a shared vision Gandhi makes a speech that only focuses on a certain aspect of India and it helps inspire his followers. Gandhi saw the issue of poverty in India and he wanted to address it in respectable and appropriate way. He sat in front of a huge crowd and discussed and talked about massive amounts of Indians in poverty. http://www.americanrhetoric.com/MovieSpeeches/moviespeechgandhi4.html

Enable others to act To enable others to act, Gandhi had to give examples and things to do to help all Indians. He explains to them to never submit themselves to unjust British laws, resist actively and provocatively, embarrass them to change their minds. He makes himself clear to never use violence and to never kill any of the British. Gandhi proposes a labor strike against the British. http://thedreampickers.blogspot.com/2010_09_12_archive.html

Model the way Gandhi models his method of protest by multiple ways. http://www.markshep.com/peace/Narayan.html Gandhi models his method of protest by multiple ways. Gandhi is demonstrating non-cooperation with the British authority by telling them he was willingly to go to jail. He told them he wasn’t going to bail any bail and wasn’t going to leave the premises like he was instructed. Gandhi continuously goes back in and out of jail which helps his protest methods. When violence breaks out within India, Gandhi tries to end the campaign and he fast until the out break of violence stops. One of greatest things he has done, was walk to the salt mines and get his people all of their own salt which is illegal by the British.

http://butterfliesdragonsandpeace. wordpress http://butterfliesdragonsandpeace.wordpress.com/2012/05/28/non-violent-and-passive-are-not-synonyms-non-violent-warriors-against-enbridge/ Idealized influence Idealized influence helps their followers gain trust and confidence as they watch and follow their leader. They respect the leader as a role model. Gandhi influenced many of his people. Every decision he made, they would never object and always follow. Gandhi influenced the crowd, for example, when he was throwing his pass in the fire. He was being beaten half to dead, and continuously was throwing it into the fire. The people started to follow his decision and were trusting him. Gandhi made a risk and was leading his followers by example.

Inspirational motivation http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/slideshows/people/50-years-of-kings-speech-memorable-speeches/the-bombay-address/slideshow/22131817.cms Inspirational motivation is where you share a vision of the future and where you make sure you are apart of the organization and encouraging the better future. Gandhi showed this quality through all the speeches he gave and the describing the issues to his people and what needed to be done to fix it. Gandhi gave many speeches, one of them was one he was focusing on all the Indians in poverty and how they need help. This showed how Gandhi wasn’t in this for power, but to help out his people and to motivate them to do be apart of this.

Intellectual stimulation Intellectual Stimulation is where you raise awareness to the issues and help develop the capability for the people to help solve problems themselves.\ Gandhi helped many people do things on their own. For example, when Gandhi was put in jail after they marched to the salt mines, the people were continuously walking, two by two and as they were, the British were beating them. The people did this on their own, without Gandhi present. They realized everything British doing was a problem, and knowing they were going to get beat, they still walked. http://footage.framepool.com/en/shot/636667873-salt-satyagraha-gandhi-cap-nonviolent-resistance-colonial-power

Individualized consideration Individualized consideration is where you look at your group as a “whole” individual rather than another one of your followers. Gandhi treated every person he encountered as family. He would listen in great detail to the people and give them they advice they needed to succeed. A man approaches Gandhi and tells him that he will be going to hell because he killed a Muslim boy. Gandhi listens and tells him that if he were to find a orphaned Muslim and raise him as his own all would be forgiven. Gandhi cares about all the individual people and will help best he can.

Conclusion Transformational Leadership is where you are focused on creating a great change and helping the followers become their own leaders. Gandhi showed all the four steps of transformational leadership in his process to success. They were idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration. Throughout the years, Gandhi made a big difference to his people. Something that many people will always remember him by and never forget. If someone helped change your country, would you always remember them?
