You're thinking about what you want to do with your future: ✓ Career Goals ✓ Post Secondary Plan (4 year or 2 year college/university) ✓ Potential Income ( live the type of life you want to live) But what does this have to do with high school? EVERYTHING!!!!! So… Now What? Putting It All Together

House Bill 5 (HB 5), passed by the Texas Legislature in 2013, made substantial changes to the state's curriculum, graduation requirements, assessment program, and accountability system. There are two main purposes for House Bill 5 The first purpose of HB 5: Reduced the number of state end-of-course assessments required for high school students to graduate. What is HB5 and it’s purpose?

Five EOC tests are required for graduation: ✔ English I (Reading and Writing) ✔ English II (Reading and Writing) ✔ Algebra I ✔ Biology ✔ US History Which STAAR/ EOC Test are required?

SB 149 was signed by Governor Greg Abbott on May 11, He revised the state's graduation requirements for students classified as: 11th grade (Class of 2016) and 12th grade (Class of 2015) Senate Bill 149 Students who failed the EOC assessment graduation requirements for no more than two courses are eligible to receive a Texas high school diploma if the student meets the qualifications to graduate by means of an individual graduation committee (IGC). The IGC committee members and criteria vary by district.

The second purpose of HB 5: To allow high school students greater flexibility in choosing their courses while maintaining academic rigor. What is HB5 and its purpose?

What’s your passion?

What are the five endorsement areas? The endorsement areas and the career fields to which they relate are as follows: 1. STEM - Science, Technology-including computer science, Engineering, and advanced Math 2. Public Services - Health science and occupations, education, law enforcement 3. Multidisciplinary Studies - This endorsement provides students the opportunity to take a variety of courses from each of the other four endorsement areas 4. Arts and Humanities - Political science, literature, world languages, cultural studies, history, and fine arts 5. Business and Industry - Information technology, database management, marketing, accounting, finance, graphic design, construction, welding, automotive technology, and agriculture.

HB5 Endorsements & Pathways Business & Industry CTE English Combined Arts & Humanities Social Studies LOTE 4 LOTE 2+2 Fine Arts English Multidisciplinary Studies Advanced Core 4X4 AP/IB/Dual Credit Public Services CTE JROTC STEM CTE Computer Science Math Science Combined HB5 Endorsements are selected 8 th grade year

HB 5 restructured the state's traditional graduation requirements, the " 4x4 " graduation plan, to the following: 1)The 22 credit Foundation High School Plan which is the core of all graduation plans under HB5 2)The 26 credit Foundation Plus Endorsement Plan that allows students to earn endorsements in specific areas of study by completing four additional credits 3)The 26 credit New Distinguished Plan that includes an endorsement and additional math and science course requirements House Bill 5 Graduation Requirements
