Online I&E Meeting January 12, 2016 New Covenant School Inc.

For All: Who Does What  Marsha and I are splitting duties just a bit differently than Chris Phillips and I did.  Marsha will handle the bulk of administrative duties, such as contacts, event planning, local/state/fed forms, scheduling, accounts go-between, Blackbaud, volunteers, general business, etc.  Marsha’s standard office hours will be:  Tuesdays from 9 to 3  Fridays from 9 to 4:30  Sandy will handle the educational issues, such as: curriculum planning and advice, course planning, credit checks, educational issues, testing, discipline, etc.  Sandy’s standard office hours will be:  Thursdays from 1-2:30  Fridays from 10 to 4:45  Accounts Hours: Fridays from 11:30-3:30

Trip to Crayola Experience in Orlando  Marsha has the finalized details for this trip.  She ed them to those who signed up at orientation.  If you signed up and did not get an , call the office or us and we will send you the info.  Please confirm as soon as possible via , phone call, or face to face that you are still attending and what your people count is.  Tuesday, January 19 in Orlando

Composition Tutorials  Composition tutorials with Mrs. Hancock resume tomorrow, Wednesday, January 13 at the usual times.  Students should bring all their first semester work in a large Ziploc style bag and have their Self-Analysis Pages completely done.  I don’t expect the students to understand what the Self- Analysis pages mean yet. Just complete them. They have to be completed in order for me to explain them.  Parents should bring any questions or concerns they have.

Science Labs – new schedule LLife Science Labs will finish this month at the normal time of 1-3 pm on Wednesdays. BBiology Labs will begin February 3rd and end on March 30. EEarth Science Labs will complete their labs April 6-20th.

Spring Play practices  The Spring play practices for Looking Glass Land (Alice in Wonderland II) resume this Thursday at the times on the schedule.  Tech students should always be there at least 30 minutes before practice and expect to stay for minutes after practice ends.  Remember the Theatre Rule: Being early is being on time; being on time is being late; being late is an emergency only.  We need more adults and older students involved in tech areas in order for the play to be a great success. Please, please contact the office if you can help with makeup, costumes, prop making, lights, or sound. You don’t need to attend all rehearsals unless you want to do so.

Spelling Bee  As we announced earlier in the school year, the Spelling Bee scheduled for January has been cancelled. We did not have enough kids in any grade level sign up.

King Center Ticket Holders  Reminder: Those with tickets to see the play Peter Rabbit which will be at the King Center on January 26 should remember to use those tickets.  Start time is 10:30. We recommend you arrive by 10:00 at the latest in order to have time for restroom break, find seats, etc.  You do not meet as a group outside. Just go inside, find your seat, and you will see that the rest of the NCS students who are attending are seated next/near you.

For All Grades and Adults  Art Contest Entries must be in the school office on Friday, January 29th.  The Art Contests ARE open to enrolled students as well as their parents, guardians, and grandparents.  The deadline was moved into January back in the summer when Brevard County moved the county art contests up a month.  Handouts on the categories (painting, pen & ink, sculpture, jewelry, steampunk, etc.) and grade levels are available in the office. We will get them up on the website shortly.  The entry must comply with the theme set for the category and grade level in order to win a prize.  Some entries will move to the County contest and some will go to the Melbourne Art Festival in April.

Telescope Night  Telescope Night for January 8 was cancelled due to terrible overcast skies and mistiness.  We are rescheduling for sometime in February as the remaining days in January are too iffy, by weather history for those days.

Seniors – Grade 12  You have until January 22 to have your first semester credits verified. Only one senior has done so, and he doesn’t even live in this county, so Facebook message Mrs. Hancock and she’ll get the seniors on the Calendar.  Deadline for first semester SENIOR credits is January 22.  If you don’t contact her by Thursday, January 14 to make your appointment, Mrs. Hancock will assign you a time.  Parents of seniors who will be attending college, university, or tech school next fall need to file their FAFSA form by January 31.

Grades 9, 10, 11 & some in grades 6-8  Deadline for you to bring in your first semester work in courses for which you are receiving graduation credit is February 19th. Even if you have not finished a first semester’s worth in a subject or subjects, you do bring it all to the appointment. See handout on shelf in front of the receptionist desk for info on what to bring.  If you do not call this week to schedule an appointment, we will begin assigning appointments, so call and get your choice of times.  All appointments will be with Mrs. Hancock on Fridays.  Find several dates that are before or on February 19th and suggest them when you contact us.

Modern History Fair  Mandatory for Grades Kindergarten through 8th.  Optional for Grades 9-12th  Tuesday, February 9  Fair Project Drop-offs and Judging - 12 noon to 3 pm Fair Awards Announced - 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm  Both the project entry/interview at drop-off AND the evening awards event are mandatory for Grades K-8th.  Location: Franklin T. DeGroodt Public Library 6475 Minton Road Southeast, Palm Bay, FL  The PowerPoint presentation that was given ten times in the fall on how to do a project is available on the school’s website at and, on the tab for Media, click on PowerPoints.

Orlando Shakespeare Theatre Trip  February 16th  Tuesday, February 16  We must be at the theatre no later than 9:40. Please plan in such a way that you do not arrive late. They won’t let us in until our entire group is present.  An will be sent a day or two before with directions, contact info for my cell, dress, etc.  May be a few tickets available. Talk with Sandy when she is at the office.
