Evaluating Teams Organizational Structure Projectized vs. Functional Virtual Team Environment Do you work in a “virtual team?” “Welcome to the Matrix” ‘Reality’ for the Project Manager today… The High Performance Triangle Your tool to transform the matrix environment of the virtual team into reality!

Organizational Structure Functional Projectized Strong Matrix Balanced Matrix Weak Matrix Functional Manager Stronger Power Shared Between Project and Functional Manager Project Manager Stronger Less Formal Authority More Formal Authority PMI’s preferred method for Project Management is to have a Projectized Organization where all personnel are assigned to the Project Manager and the PjM exercises total authority over all aspects of the project. The least desired method is to have a Functional Organization in which Functional Managers retain control over the personnel assigned to on various projects.

Far East Pax River, Maryland Southeast USA Southwest USA Midwest USA Virtual Team Environment Virtual environments are traditionally seen as those where teams are spread over great geographical distances. Communications are difficult due to the challenges associated with these distances. Team meetings, and team building sessions are difficult simply due to the logistics of gathering the team into one location.

The challenges of the virtual team: communications; team continuity; team building; synergy are just as real right here within the gates of our little community. What are some additional challenges your teams face?

Welcome, PMP, to the matrix organization… …your team has been trying to communicate with you! Your challenge is to build a High Performance Team in a virtual environment. To ensure the success of your project, may I offer the application of six principles? Morpheus, PMP
