4 HWB should be providing a clear lead across the system and a clear vision of where the health & social care community needs to travel to Definitely not harnessing the full potential of the HWB Strategic Leadership Too many priorities Developed relationships and trust across different member groups Done a rattling good job in incredibly difficult circumstances An enabler not a system leader The Board has refined and shaped the strategy

5 Communication & Engagement The workshops are where some of the real benefits are A developing culture of inclusivity Local strategy consultation events were a great example of shared leadership Where are the providers in this? The HWB summaries help share the Boards business The champions are a champion idea Excellent Healthwatch leadership

6 Governance & Support “ All in boats going in the same direction, same river but would be better in the same boat ”

7 Summary Nationally, no Board has fully achieved potential. Common themes identified Boards are working well where there is: – Passion, ambition, drive and leadership – Strong foundation of partnership working – Trust, respect and collaboration – Openness to learning and challenge – Engagement with local people and communities – Shared understanding of structures & governance
