E-learning in the 21 st century QMT323E Nur asmiedar bt che jaafar

What is E-learning? There are many DEFINITIONS of e-learning, some of which are as follows:  E-learning is the delivery of individualized, comprehensive, dynamic learning content in real time, aiding the development of communities of knowledge, linking learners and practitioners with experts  E-learning refers to the use of internet technologies to deliver a broad array of solutions that enhance knowledge and performance – J. Rosenberg  E-learning is the use of network technology to design, deliver, select, administer, and extend LEARNING – Elliot Masie, The Masie Center

E-learning  E-learning refers to the use of internet technologies to deliver a broad array of solutions that enhance knowledge and performance.  Web-based learning, online learning, distributed learning, computer-assisted instruction, or internet-based learning  Multimedia E-learning : the use of words and pictures in e-learning

Who invented E-learning? In a mix of business and the classroom, Blackboard Inc. has been awarded a patent for the software that delivers its e-learning products.has been awarded a patent for the software that delivers its e-learning products But many in the growing online education community say the company didn’t create the techniques used to help students feel at home in a virtual classroom. Those who object to the patent are registering their disapproval in a very electronic way: by online petitions and contributing to a long Wikipedia entry tracing the rise of virtual learning all the way back to

When E-learning starts?… E-learning began at just about the same time that a computer was developed that was practical for personal use. In fact, the concept and practice of distance learning predates the computer area by almost 100 years. In England, in 1840, shorthand classes were being offered by correspondence courses through the mail. The improvements to the postal service made this method of distance learning popular in the early part of the last century. This led to a large number of “through the mail” type of educational programs. The computer only made distance learning easy and better. Television, video recorders, and even radio have all made a contribution to distance learning.

Why using E-learning? Flexibility, Accessibility, Convenience – Learners can access materials in their own time and study at their own pace and place Cross platform – Learners can access the content through window-based, Mac-based or UNIX-based computers Low delivery costs – Once e-content has been developed and uploaded on the server, it is relatively inexpensive to distribute domestically and worlwide. Ease of update – It enables the content to be easily and regularly updated and instantly available to all learners.

Collaborative learning – E-learning promotes collaborative learning thus resulting in a more engaging and richer learning experiences. Scalability – Content can be delivered to a small or large number of learners with little effort.

How E-learning works? E-learning or Electronic learning is a Technology- supported learning where the means for instruction is through computer technology and in most of the cases using internet as a communication channel both for the transmission of the learning material and the communication with the trainer. If the training action has face-to-face sessions in addition to the internet sessions, then it’s known as blended learning.
