The U.S. spends more than twice as much for healthcare than other countries throughout the world but we are still ranked among the sickest (CDC, 2009). Life expectancy in the U.S. is 77.9 years. Healthy life expectancy in the U.S. is 69.3 years. Healthy life expectancy ranking: U.S. = 29 th Japan = #1 Japan’s healthy life expectancy is 75.0 years (CDC, 2009). Introduction

 The top 5 leading causes of death in the U.S. are  Heart Disease  Cancer  Chronic Lower Respiratory Disease  Stroke  Unintentional injuries  900,000 Americans die prematurely from 5 leading causes of death (CDC, 2009).  20-40% from each cause could have been prevented (CDC, 2009). 5 Leading causes of death in the U.S.
