2 Health Status: The condition of a person’s body, mind, emotions, and relationships. 1.A person’s heredity 2.The quality of the environment in which a person lives 3.The random events that occur in a person’s life 4.The health care a person receives 5.The behaviors and situations a person chooses

4 Behaviors / Factors Healthful Behavior: action that a person chooses that promotes health, prevents injury or illness, and improves the quality of life. Risk Behavior: action a person chooses that threatens health, can cause injury or illness, and destroys the environment. Protective Factor: something that increases the likelihood of a positive outcome. Risk Factor: something that increases the likelihood of a negative outcome.

5 Relationships Healthful Relationship: positive behaviors Harmful Relationship: negative behaviors Communication: very important to be skilled in this for your relationships.

6 Decisions Responsible Decisions: choice that leads to positive outcomes. Wrong Decisions: choice that leads to negative outcomes.

7 Situations Healthful situation: positive circumstance that promote health and prevent injury, illness, or premature death. Risk situation: negative circumstance that threatens health and can cause injury, illness, or premature death.

8 Risks Risk: unknown outcome Calculated Risk: Careful consideration of the possible outcomes Unnecessary Risk: Chance that is not worth taking

9 How to take responsibility for your health Quality of Life: is the degree to which a person lives to the fullest capacity. Wellness: is the quality of life that results from a person’s health status. The wellness scale: scale that shows the ranges in quality of life.
