Vision 2012 The Multidimensional Tourism Institute is a creative community of expertise cooperating closely with the business life, national and international science communities, and the public sector. It adds significant value to basic functions (education and research), to other actors within tourism, and to the entire industry.

Lapland University Consortium Lapland University Consortium (LUC) is a strategic alliance composed of Kemi-Tornio University of Applied Sciences, the University of Lapland, and Rovaniemi University of Applied Sciences. Through nationally unique cooperation the universities have accomplished a joint innovation program and defined their areas of educational resposibility Joint units: –Multidimensional Tourism Institute –Institute for Northern Culture –LUC Language Centre –LUC Library –LUC Support Service Centre

MTI in numbers 2010 Founded in 2009 in Rovaniemi Four sites –Two in Rovaniemi, one in Kittilä, and one in Sodankylä Around 110 personnel; distributed as follows: –Rovaniemi University of Applied Sciences 31 –University of Lapland 16 –Lapland Tourism College 60 Around 1,300 students; distributed as follows: –Rovaniemi University of Applied Sciences 462 –University of Lapland 175 –Lapland Tourism College 703. Education MTI is a creative community of research, learning, and expertise. It is based on cooperation and interaction between the vocational college, the university of applied sciences, and the university MTI student candidates apply for a study place at the Lapland Tourism College, at the University of Lapland (the subject of tourism research), or at Rovaniemi University of Applied Sciences (the sector of tourism, hotel and restaurant management) The study programmes have their individual learning objectives. Thus, students always graduate from just one of these three institutions The range of studies also covers supplementary, short-term, and apprenticeship education. And further, there are Open University studies available through the Lapland College of Tourism, Rovaniemi University of Applied Sciences, the University of Lapland, MTI’s own services, and the Open University The institutions provide further information on the studies

Rewarded activities 2010 – 2011 In the Kärjet 2010 Competition, Tourism Safety and Security System in Lapland was chosen as the best research, development, and innovation practice of universities of applied sciences in 2010, and it was awarded the Research, Development, and Innovation Prize on 4 March 2011 The Security and Defence Committee – a conglomerate of Lapland’s tourism industry, authorities, organizations, and research and education institutes – awarded the ’Diamond Deed’ prize of the year 2010 to the Tourism Safety and Security Network of Lapland The Lapland Tourism College team finished third in the Finnish Cooks’ Competition in Espoo on 7 April 2011
