Everyone has an opportunity to learn The joy of learning grows Collaboration is power In order to be able to answer to the transformations that are ongoing in society, Espoo has both strategically and in practice set up goals in order to transform education services that the city provides. The local development plan gives a vision?/strategic? goals for this change. The local development plan is defined in line with the governments national development plan. the concepts of learning and learners are to be seen more broadly, as this development plan adress all functions in educational and cultural services in Espoo. Learning happens in all situations, formally and informally, and learners we perceive all people of all ages, in all everyday life situations. Therefore also freetime activities as sports and youthfunctions are similary working to achieve these goals and supporting residents to being creative and capable. 3

7 Vocational education and training in finland
Vocational training covers the second largest proportion of the Finnish educational system, right after comprehensive education. Developing the world of work is one of the basic tasks of vocational education and training. The training is usually customised to meet the requirements of the workplaces. The organisation of training takes account of the student’s situation. Practical work combines learning at the workplace and in the educational institution. Professional skills are demonstrated in hands-on work tasks. The abilities of the student are evaluated by representatives of working life as well as the educational sector.

8 Vocational education and training in finland
Basic vocational qualifications, vocational degrees and specialised vocational degrees offer expertise in almost 400 different professions. Each one of these degrees can also be carried out as an apprenticeship. We plan the content of our education in cooperation with actors involved in working life, and we take our students’ views into account. Approximately 80% of apprenticeship training is practical on-the-job learning. We offer comprehensive solutions for developing working communities’ skills.
