: Many libraries at HU have their own Tech Services Depts. & Catalogs, as we did Services: Acquisitions; Cataloging; Collection Development; Preparation Services (binding, etc.), traditional library materials Dept. Catalog: Voyager; Harvard centralizes libraries into one university electronic catalog – Aleph New Project: Convert, normalize Voyager catalog records, clean up converted records, export to Aleph; year-long project Change: Department staff trained to catalog in new system Leap 1: Traditional Technical Services – New Catalog
Leap 2: Information Management Services (IMS) As a result of: Three projects and Two reorganizations between
Leap 2 : Information Management Services; 2008 Centennial 2007 – : School develops two websites: the Centennial Site & Institutional Memory Site; these 2 projects redirect us Services: Baker Tech Services tapped to provide Metadata & Taxonomy creation services for both websites’ content Proj. Catalog: XML repository; oXygen to author “metadata records” New Project: Learn XML, create the metadata schema & taxonomies, help tag & classify the website content: thousands of photos, audios, videos, school timeline events Change: Department starts providing Information Management Services (department-created Metadata & Taxonomy) websites across the school (MBA, EE, ER, DVAM…)
Leap 2: IMS – 2 Reorganizations; Faculty Project & Focus 2009 – : 1) Baker Library Reorganizes--Tech Services Group split; 2) HUL Reorganizes--Creates a Central Tech Services unit Services: Our reorganization: we keep only Metadata, Taxonomy, Acquisitions; during HUL reorganization: we add Web Search, Analytics, & Tagging services; lost Acquisitions Dept. Catalog: N/A (use IT web repositories for metadata & taxonomy) New Project: Faculty works: Develop better, & user-centered, access points. Develop Schema & Taxonomy; 3 rd project Research Information System to store & display on web Change: Department learns to collect/analyze user requirements; find & centralize faculty Metadata & Taxonomy from cross-school systems; & we tag faculty content in RIS
Leap 3: Information Product Services (IPS) ; Integration & Production Integrate website silos with a semantic-based information architecture & Institute content creation / production standards via A new three-tiered project,
