Why Select University?  Certain occupations require it eg. Lawyer, Doctor, Teacher, Engineer  Family or peer pressure  Personal goal  Other possible reasons…..

University’s Focus  University studies tend to be fairly theoretical and abstract  Studies involve a lot of reading and writing.  Teaches you to think, do research, organize, communicate well, work with others ie. a lot of transferable skills.

Admission requirements  Only U or M courses are considered  Grade 11 U or M courses are used for early admission purposes, conditional offers only!  Some final offers may use grade 11 marks  Final offers of admission are based on the average of 6, grade 12 U or M courses, one of which must be ENG4U.  Averages vary depending on the program and school– generally 70% is the minimum. Most are above 75% overall average.

Admission requirements Cont’d  “Arts” programs such as History, English, Philosophy, etc require ENG4U + any 5 other grade 12 U or M credits  “Science” programs such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Bio- Med etc require ENG4U + 2 grade 12 U sciences + 1or 2 grade 12 U maths.  “Business” programs usually require ENG4U + 1or 2 grade 12 U Maths + 3 other grade 12 U or M credits.

Types of Programs  When you enter from HS you are an undergraduate  Undergraduates begin by studying a bachelor degree program  Most Bachelor Degrees are 4 years in length.  Examples : BA – Bachelor of Arts, BSc – Bachelor of Science
