My name is Heidi Davis. It is my sixteenth year teaching. I’ve been at Creekside since it opened eleven years ago. I graduated with my masters in Special Education from Keene State College in Keene, New Hampshire. Currently, I have 7 th grade students on my caseload; I teach Language Arts Intervention classes at Creekside. I also do inclusionary support in a few general education classes in the 7 th grade.

 Students are placed in this class to help support their academic needs and address their IEP goals as discussed and decided upon at the annual case conference.  This class provides instruction in the areas of: ◦ Reading Comprehension ◦ Reading Fluency and Decoding ◦ Written Expression  This instruction is provided using various reading programs, a writing program, and supplemental activities and materials.

 Paragraph Writing ◦ Parts of Speech ◦ Parts of a Sentence ◦ Simple Sentences ◦ Compound Sentences ◦ Complex Sentences ◦ Compound-Complex Sentences ◦ Parts of a paragraph ◦ Topic sentences ◦ Detail sentences ◦ Conclusion sentences ◦ Types of paragraphs ◦ Reading Programs may include various levels of ◦ SRA reading materials *decoding or comprehension skills are addressed ◦ REWARDS reading materials may also be used.

I am Responsible. I will be on time. I will have my supplies. I will follow school rules. I am Respectful. I will be an active listener. I will be honest. I will use positive communication. I am engaged in Learning. I will follow instructions. I will ask questions. I will participate.

 Part of the Expectations and Fish Philosophy involve opportunities to “Play”. When students “Choose their Attitudes” and “Make Someone’s Day” and are truly “Being there” each day in class doing their personal best, students will be rewarded with a few minuets of free time. If students have completed all their work and had positive behavior, they will be rewarded.

Each Friday, students can earn 10 minutes of reward time. In order to participate in the 10 minutes of reward, students must have completed all class work and displayed a positive behavior throughout the week.. If you choose to not follow classroom expectations during class: Verbal/Visual Warning First Strike:Name gets written on Mrs. Davis ’ s clipboard. Second Strike:One check. Stay after class for 1 minute & talk with Mrs. Davis about the behavior. Third Strike:Two checks. Stay after class & talk with Mrs. Davis about the behavior and serve a detention- parents will be notified. Severe Disruptions:Student sent immediately to the office!

 Students are being given pre-assessments and will be assessed periodically throughout the year. A writing post test will be given at the end of each quarter to see how much progress was made and to help plan for the future.  There are no homework assignments assigned.  Although Intervention classes are ungraded, students are evaluated on the work completed in class and progress monitored throughout the quarters. This progress will be updated every 9 weeks on your child’s IEP progress reports.  I am your child’s Intervention teacher; not the teacher of record for your son/daughter. If you have any questions about this class, please feel free to contact me.

 After school study hall is open to any student who needs to work on homework. There is no advance sign up required; there is no charge.  It is not tutoring, but it is a place to work on homework with access to the computers if needed. Three staff members monitor and will help as needed.  Runs Monday through Thursdays except when there is a school holiday the next day.  All students need to be picked up by car or take the late bus after 4PM.  Study hall starts August 25, 2014.
