IAEA International Atomic Energy Agency RCA Project on Sustainability of Regional Radiation Protection Infrastructure (RAS/9/042)

IAEA Rationale for the Project Past RCA and non-RCA Regional Projects have significantly contributed to establishment / improvement of radiation protection infrastructures in the RCA Member States. The focus of the current RCA Project is on assisting the Member States to sustain the developed infrastructure mainly through development of networks to ensure continuation of regional cooperation

IAEA Project Objective To assist RCA Member States to: to sustain their radiation protection infrastructures, to maintain standards of radiological measurements, to maintain a skilled manpower base in the region to refine methods and mechanisms of regional co-operation in radiation protection, to promote regional self-reliance, networking, and mutual support, to pursue and develop subject matter with a common approach to waste management strategies and environmental discharge criteria; to create a regional network of regulatory authorities

IAEA Project Objective (continued) to create a regional network of regulatory authorities to establish a regional ALARA network to create an RCA regional focus group or network of medical practitioners to create a regional network of decision makers on radiological emergency preparedness and response

IAEA Outputs 1. Overall strategy for sustainable Radiation Protection Infrastructures in the participating RCA Member States 2. An action plan for regional sustainability in regulatory infrastructure by the participating RCA Member States. 3. An action plan for regional sustainability in occupational exposure by the participating RCA Member States. 4. An action plan for regional sustainability in medical exposure control by the participating RCA Member State. 5. An action plan for regional sustainability in public exposure control by the participating RCA Member State. 6. An action plan for regional sustainability in radiological emergency planning and preparedness.
