Lexiles A Lexile is a measure of either a student’s reading ability or the difficulty of a text like a book or magazine article. LEXILE Lexile Goals: First Grade – 450 Second Grade - 700

Students Learn to Read at Different Times Students entering kindergarten may:  not know any letters and sounds  may know entire alphabet and some sounds  may be reading easy books  may be reading chapter books  Therefore, we have differentiated our curriculum

Reading Materials Read Well – Divided by reading levels; not grade levels Open Court – Divided by grade levels; Has a collection of stories at a high Lexile Trade Books – Media Center Reading First DI Kits – Help teach decoding skills
