How to set out a play script 怎样将故事改编成一个剧本 By Joyce

What is a play script like? A play script is different from a story. It is intended to be performed on stage, So it has to sound effective when it is read out loud.

Tips for turning a story into a play script: 1 Title 标题 2 Scene: say where and when the scene is set 背景,包括时间和地点 3 Characters: say which characters are in the scene at the start. You should give information about their age, jobs or relationship with another character.角色简介 4 Dialogue -What the characters say对白 The name of the character who is speaking should be written at the left-hand side of the page . It is a good idea to print it in capitals. Then write a colon:角色大写,在页面左边,加“:” 5 Stage directions -instructions to the actors, written in brackets舞台指导,可以是人物动作或情绪,放在括号内 Any characters who come into a scene after the start of it should be introduced by 'Enter'. Use 'Exit' if the character leaves.角色的出场用Enter…, 角色的退场用Exit…

Here is an example. Look at it and underline stage directions and color dialogues. The Bully Scene: A school playground Characters: JIM, a first year-pupil EDDIE, a second-year pupil (JIM is looking through his bag. EDDIE comes up and pushes him.) JIM: (angrily) What do you think you're doing? EDDIE: Oh, sorry, did I hurt you? I was just wondering what you had in that bag. JIM: What's it to do with you? EDDIE: I forgot my dinner money today. And I'm hungry. (EDDIE grabs JIM's lunch and runs off.) JIM: Hey you, come back! (Enter the JANITOR.) JANITOR: What's wrong, son?
