KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER PARTNERSHIP  Driven by the needs of the business, is of strategic importance and demonstrates clear benefits to the partners  Technology Strategy Board funded, model in place for over 35 years  SMEs contribute up to £20,000 p.a. (larger companies up to £30,000)  A full time graduate delivering the project (employed by the University)  A dedicated academic team to provide expert advice  Typically a 2 project results in  An increase of over £220,000 in annual profits before tax  The creation of three genuine new jobs  An increase in skills of existing staff  Shorter KTP projects (up to 9 months) for short term/tactical activities KTP

EXAMPLES ACROSS THE UK Sustainability; Mspace; an architecturally-led design and build construction group undertaking 2 x 2 year KTPS to embed sustainable construction and design practices within the organisation (SME) Engineering; To develop energy efficient, smart modular building panels, evaluate the performance and impact of such panels and establish design guidelines for their use in a range of building projects. (SME) Design; To enhance the design of new build/refurbished sheltered housing ensuring flexibility and longevity of the accommodation to meet future demographic requirements. THE PROJECT BACKGROUND  started in 2008  as demand for environmentally sustainable building design is driven by legislation and clients  CCA must respond to stay competitive, but lacks the technical and scientific knowledge of sustainability  ArchiLab specialises in this sector and is able to fill the gaps  Associate’s responsibility is to manage the project and embed the new knowledge KTP AIM  to gain in-house expertise in sustainable and environmental design  to develop and establish a specialist sustainability service
