SAFEGUARDING

Safeguarding policy in schools Provide an overview of how you safeguard the children that attend your settings. ◦ What policies are in place within your setting? ◦ How do you implement these in practice? ◦ What training do you receive?

Strategies and Support Services available ◦ What strategies are in place to safeguard children? How do these strategies ensure effective and safe practice? ◦ Enhanced DBS, ◦ Integrated Children’s System - This system helps agencies that work together to safeguard children and help them to achieve the best possible outcomes. It supports professionals and agencies with assessment, planning, intervention and review of care packages that are put in place to support the child and the family. ◦ The Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre- This runs the THINKYOUKNOW Internet safety scheme ◦ Policies and procedures within all settings e.g. Safeguarding, Data Protection, visitors to setting, personal care routines, E safety, bullying, self harm, Health and Safety ◦ Staff training and regular updates ◦ Multi-agency and multi-functional approach in working with children and families

Strategies and Support Services available In pairs, discuss services and organisations that can support staff, children and their families, and what they provide in order to help and safeguard individuals? ◦ Examples: ◦ Childline ◦ Kidscape, ◦ NSPCC ◦ Barnados, ◦ Flying Start, ◦ Young Carers ◦ Primary and secondary health care teams
